Robert Rodriguez Plans Predator Reboot For 2010

Director Robert Rodriguez is to relaunch the Predator franchise with a new film entitled Predators, it has been announced.

Variety reports the Sin City helmer has completed a script for a reboot of the series featured the dreadlocked alien killing machine, first seen in 1987.

While John McTiernan's 1987 original was a box office smash and nominated for a best visual effects Oscar, its 1990 follow-up was poorly received.

The extra-terrestrial hunter appeared in videogames and comic books throughout the 90s before director Paul WS Anderson teamed the Predator up with another alien killer in 2004's Alien Vs Predator.

A sequel, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, appeared in 2007, but Rodriguez is now planning a brand new take on the dreadlocked alien murderer, with the plurality of his title hinting at multiple foes.

Rodriguez has also announced he plans to start work in June on Machete, a film based on a mock trailer that was part of his Grindhouse collaboration with Quentin Tarantino.

Machete sees Danny Trejo as the titular ex-Federale who is double-crossed after being hired to carry out an assassination and goes on a quest for vengeance.

Rodriguez wrote the Machete script and will co-direct the film with his longtime editor Ethan Maniquis, with Overnight Productions overseeing the shoot.

It is not yet known whether the film version of Machete will keep the trailer's infamous tagline - "This time, they f****d with the wrong Mexican".
