Robert Downey Jr. - Robert Downey Jr . rules our directing

Robert Downey Jr. isn't keen on directing movies because it sounds ''so exhausting''.

The 48-year-old actor - who plays Iron Man/Tony Stark in the superhero film franchise - would much rather appear in front of the camera than behind it, as he thinks helming a motion picture sounds like too much effort.

When asked if he would like to direct a movie, he said: ''You mean just eliminate the middle-man and not work with people like ['Iron Man 3' screenwriter/ director] Shane Black?

''But seriously, be the director? And worry about the budget while working with several of the most self-obsessed and eccentric human beings on Earth? It sounds so exhausting!''

Downey has been pleased with the positive reaction to 'Iron Man 3', and joked he would love to make another movie in the franchise - but one that would only star him and co-star Rebecca Hall.

He added to Nuts magazine: ''We figured after 'Avengers Assemble' you couldn't top that for spectacle, so I'm just so pleased now that having seen 'Iron Man 3' people are telling us we did it correctly.

''Enough for me to be proud to announce the next instalment, which will just star Rebecca Hall and me, called 'Iron Man 4: Parade's End'. You're gonna love it.''
