Robert De Niro testified in a felony fraud trial on Friday (18th March 2011).
Robert De Niro, the Hollywood actor whose new movie 'Limitless' topped the box-office over the weekend, appeared in a Manhattan courtroom on Friday to testify in the trial of the art dealer Leigh Morse, reports Bloomberg.Appearing at the New York Supreme Court, the legendary actor said he didn't consent to have the proceeds from the sale of his late father's paintings deposited into Mrs Morse's personal bank account. The art dealer was director of the Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, which declared bankruptcy in 2007. Ms Morse is accused of stealing from the estate of De Niro's late father, but pleaded not guilty on one count of fraud and one count of grand larceny. The 67-year-old actor testified that he didn't give permission for anyone at the gallery to give Ms More $77,000 from the sale of three of his father's paintings. De Niro Sr died in 1993 from prostate cancer, leaving over 1,000 works of original art behind in his Manhattan studio.
The court room was packed for Robert De Niro's appearance, but the rest of the trial played to largely empty room. The actor is currently filming the 2012 thriller 'Red Lights', about a psychologist whose study of paranormal activity leads him to investigate a world-renowned psychic.
