Robbins Writes 'Mid-life Crisis' Album

Tim Robbins turned to music to help him heal following his split from Susan Sarandon - he has written a "mid-life crisis" album.

The Hollywood couple parted ways in 2009 after 23 years together, and Robbins admits he has been battling feelings of disillusionment.

To help him find focus in his life, Robbins began writing music and is set to release his first record later this year (10) - and the actor reveals working on songs helped him deal with his problems.

He tells BBC radio show Desert Island Discs, "I asked myself the question, 'What is it that will make you happy? What is it you have not done that you will regret not doing?'

"A mid-life crisis - I think we all go through something, it's inevitable, it's unavoidable. You're staring some kind of frightening thing down. It's when you pass 40, inherently we double our age when we think about life. At 40 you can imagine 80. You start thinking about how many years you've got left, and you start thinking, 'What the hell am I doing here?'

"I was thinking about calling it The Mid-Life Crisis Album, but then I thought that's not going to sell any copies. Then I thought, How about Songs of Love and Misery?"

And when the programme's host Kirsty Young asked if he still hopes to find love "post mid-life crisis", Robbins replied, "Let's hope it's out there".
