Rivers To Become Crime Author?
Comedienne JOAN RIVERS will deter her retirement by launching a new career - as a crime writer. The 74-year-old admits she has long admired crime authors P.D. James, Patricia Cornwell and Agatha Christie - and soon plans to fulfil a lifelong ambition of publishing her own crime stories. She says, "I want to write mystery stories. There's a series of books I want to write. There's so much work to do. That's what gets me up every morning and makes me crazy when I have more than two days off at a time." And the veteran actress laughs at suggestions she should instead relax and enjoy her twilight years, adding, "I don't fit in at all with friends who are in their third acts. They're retired and go on holidays, go to dinner and play golf - how boring! "People always say to me, 'When are you going to retire?' Retire and do what? Tell my mailman jokes? I'd rather carry on going out and telling people jokes - and writing books, too."
