Rihanna - Rihanna Among 300 Guests Evacuated From London Hotel
Rihanna was among 300 guests who were forced to evacuate a London hotel after smoke alarms went off in the early hours of yesterday morning, according to the local paper The Standard. Alarms sounded at around 6am after they were activated on the seventh floor of the plush Corinthia Hotel in Whitehall Place.
Rihanna is currently in the UK capital to record new material, having played at Bbc Radio 1's Hackney Weekender this weekend just passed. There she appeared on stage with Jay Z on his own headlining set before he returned the favour, culminating in a terrific version of her breakthrough hit 'Umbrella'. It would've been an umbrella she'd have needed if the fire crews had been forced to use their hoses early yesterday morning. A statement from the London Fire Service read "We were called at 06.21 and it was a small fire in the lift motor system on the seventh floor. Around 300 guests were evacuated after the fire alarm went off. The incident was over at 07.52 but crews did return to make sure everything was fine."
General manager of the Corinthia Matthew Dixon said: "It was an unfortunate incident but we were pleased with all the co-operation of hotel guests and how staff dealt with it." Rihanna made her fans aware of the incident by Tweeting a picture of herself with the caption "Roamin da streets since 6am. Fyah in da telly! evacuationlife"
