Pop giant Rihanna is to team up with broadcasting giant Fox, with the news that her already much-derided documentary Rihanna 777 coming to the network in May, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

You’ll probably recall the furore that filming for this documentary caused, with Rihanna inviting a load of media types to join her on her private jet as she flew to play seven different concerts around the world. However, billed as a chance for the journos to get to know the real Rihanna, they were instead disappointed to discover that the singer largely kept herself hidden away for the duration of the trip, causing scenes of consternation which – in one extreme case – saw one Australian journalist lose it and start streaking up and down the plane naked.

However, despite the criticism she endured for that trip, the press it received helped get her last album Unapologetic to number one on the US Billboard charts, while she also gained a chart topping single with Diamonds. The decision to go with Fox for the documentary is an interesting one; the network is currently best known for its long running American Idol singing competition, and some are suggesting that the partnership between the two parties could pave the way for the star to appear as a judge on a future season of the show.
