Ricky Gervais Promises That His Jokes Will Be Told 'My Way' At Golden Globes
Ricky Gervais has promised that when he returns to host the Golden Globes this year, his jokes will not be toned down. This comes after Ricky Gervais upset some Hollywood stars with his gags when hosting last year's award ceremony.
It will be the third time that Gervais will host the awards, which will take place on January 15th (2012). Even though his jokes last year were harsh and fell flat with stars such as Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr, Gervais has said that his new material won't be censored or dull. Talking to NBC's 'Today', Gervais said: 'I do it my way. I get final edit on everything. And they don't know what I'm going to say. And they won't know what I'm going to say 'til I say it.' Downplaying last year's criticism about making jokes over Charlie Sheen and one about Downey's stint in jail, he said: 'I don't know what I did wrong really, what did I say that was untrue? The controversy is irrelevant to me. That is people's opinions outside my jokes'. Furthermore, he elaborated that his stage personality is an inflated version of his normal self: 'The guy on stage is a lot brasher, more arrogant, more confident than me. I take a deep breath and go out with swagger ... I might even really be drunk.'
Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes live on January 15th (2012) and is set to appear as the voice of 'Mole' in the new 'Wind in the Willows' adaptation, scheduled for release later this year.
