Ricki Lake - Ricki Lake Moved To Los Angeles For Fresh Start

Actress Ricki Lake moved to Los Angeles from New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks for the sake of her mental health.

The Hairspray star found the 2001 atrocities tough to deal with, and after splitting from her ex-husband Rob Sussman - the father of her two sons - in the summer of 2003, she decided to make a fresh start and relocate to America's West Coast.

She tells Scholastic Parent & Child magazine, "About eight years ago, I picked up my whole life and moved to Los Angeles. After living through September 11 in Manhattan and having two small children - my kids were six and two in 2004 - I really felt like I needed to change things up for my mental health. I ended my marriage and my talk show, and in many ways, I started over. It was a real turning point.

"It was scary to make these major life decisions that impacted my entire family, but ultimately I think they were for the best. I started focusing more on women's advocacy projects."
