Rolling Stones - Richards: 'I Never Wanted Fame'

THE ROLLING STONES star KEITH RICHARDS never wanted to be a famous rock star - he would have been happy playing in an unknown band.

The legendary guitarist shot to fame with the group in the 1960s, and the band went on to sell over 200 million albums worldwide throughout their long-running career.

But Richards never set out with the intention of becoming a star and is convinced that fame has not made him happy - it is the music he plays that gives him real contentment.

He says, "I've been invented by the media. I'm just a minstrel. I didn't want to be a rock star, just play music.

"I realised to do that, you had to be famous. It is nothing to do with wanting to be a star."
