Richard Hawley - Richard Hawley Will Be A Brit Awards No-show
British rocker Richard Hawley is refusing to call off a scheduled concert on Wednesday (20Feb13) to attend the BRIT Awards, calling the annual music ceremony "a room full of dysfunctional egos".
The star is nominated in the British Male Solo Artist category alongside Calvin Harris, Plan B, Ben Howard and Olly Murs, but he won't be at the prizegiving in London.
Instead, Hawley will be performing for fans at a gig in Bristol, England.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "They've asked me to go but I will not move a show if I don't absolutely have to.
"It's a thing I've always been strict on. When I broke my leg last year I was onstage the same night, in a wheelchair. So I won't be moving a gig to go to the Brits. A room full of dysfunctional egos who think being famous will solve their problems, then add booze and Tv cameras? No thank you."
The singer-songwriter is convinced he has no chance of landing the prize anyway, adding, "The nomination is a nod to the fact I'm still around and I'm very grateful for that. But I won't win. They're not going to give it to some 46-year-old bloke, are they? I reckon I've got as much chance of winning as I have of seeing the Queen's t**s."
