Rice Helps Peaches Live Out Her Jesus Christ Superstar Dream
The Canadian star, who now lives in Berlin, was given the chance to stage her dream musical - a one-woman take on Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's spectacular Jesus Christ Superstar - when a city theatre group approached her with the offer.
But the show never got off the ground because sponsors of the theatre feared she was going to desecrate the original musical.
So Peaches took to her Twitter.com account earlier this year (10) to grumble about her rotten luck - and Rice saw her tweet.
She tells Billboard.com, "He called them (theatre bosses) and said, 'This is a lot of bad press. Why don't you just let her do it?' I got permission to do a trial. They came to see it and loved it. We ended up doing a second run, and Sir Tim Rice himself showed up. I was totally cr**ping my pants over it, thinking about being 14 and singing it (musical) in my bedroom."
The singer/songwriter is now bringing the show to North America and she's convinced controversy will help to sell tickets: "It definitely has curiosity built into it, which is a good thing, because they come to see the performance and I deliver the goods. Jesus Christ Superstar was banned when it first came out, too, so controversy has been following it since the beginning."
Peaches is planning an six-date tour in North America in December (10).
