Report No Additional Cost For New Film Process

Screening Peter Jackson's The Hobbit at 48 frames per second, rather than the usual 24 fps is expected to deliver unparalleled clarity and audience immersion, but theaters who show it in that format are not expected to add a surcharge to their regular ticket prices for 3D films, the Hollywood Reporter reported today (Thursday), citing a source close to the situation. Although the trade publication said that theater owners will have to invest in "some technology" to show the movie at The Higher frame rate, other reports have indicated that a no-cost software upgrade may be all that is required to do so.
