Report Murdoch Plans To Hack Off His News Business
At one point during his testimony to the Leveson committee looking into the telephone hacking scandal at his U.K. newspapers, Rupert Murdoch conceded that he may have overlooked the wrongdoing by some of the papers' staff because the newspapers represented such a small part of News Corp's overall revenue. Now, according to the Wall Street Journal , which is owned by News Corp, Murdoch is considering splitting off his print operations from his entertainment ones, apparently following the lead of Sumner Redstone, who split Viacom in two in 2006 (Viacom and CBS). The News Corp entertainment units include the 20th Century Fox film studio and the Fox TV network, while the print unit includes The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, the London Sun , and the London Times.
