Report Luhrmann Needs More Cash To Finish Gatsby
Australian director Baz Luhrmann's remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby may be facing more serious difficulties than complicated 3D special effects. Earlier this month it was reported that the movie had been yanked from its scheduled awards-season release in December and was being moved to an undisclosed date in the summer ostensibly because the effects could not be completed in time. But now a newspaper in Melbourne, Australia, where the movie is being shot, is reporting that Warner Bros., which has already poured $127 million into the project, has cut off further funds. Moreover, the newspaper said, "Luhrmann is said to have already recalled members of the cast for reshoots, Tobey Maguire among them, with a planned return to Australia imminent." All of which raises the question of who is going to pay for the actors' traveling expenses, let alone the production costs of the reshoots.
