Reiner: 'Gibson Redemption Will Be A Long Process'
Gibson was arrested last month (JUL06) after being caught drink-driving, and then launching into an anti-Semitic rant to the Jewish police officer who stopped him.
The actor released a statement earlier this month (AUG06) where he said, "Please know from my heart I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith."
But Reiner, who is Jewish, in convinced that Gibson is an anti-Semite, and uses Gibson's film The Passion Of The Christ as evidence.
Reiner says, "It's not a matter of just apologising for some words you've said.
"When he can come out and say, you know, 'My views have been reflected in my work and I feel bad that I've done that,' then that will be the beginning of some reconciliation for him.
"I believe that people can be redeemed and people can change, but that's going to be a very long process."
