Regis Philbin Shocks Kelly Ripa By Announcing Retirement
Speaking on the show, Philbin announced, "There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera - especially certain old people. We'll have a lot of fun between now and then". The host did not give an exact date for his departure but said it would be sometime around the end of summer. It has been confirmed that Kelly Ripa will continue with a new replacement co-host and early indications suggest that Anderson Cooper and Jeff Probst are the two most favoured contenders.
Philbin's long and distinguished career in television has seen him win three Emmy Awards as well as a lifetime achievement award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In recent years, he has presented the US version of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' as well as the first series of 'America's Got Talent.'
