Reggae star Frederick 'toots' Hibbert has cut short his tour of the U.S. to undergo treatment for injuries sustained when he was hit in the face with a bottle during a concert in Virginia earlier this month (May13).
The Toots and the Maytals singer was performing with his band at the Dominion Riverrock festival in Richmond on 18 May (13) when an audience member hurled the bottle at the stage, striking him on the head.
Hibbert was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but it has now emerged he requires further medical attention - and as a result, he has cancelled the remainder of his shows.
A statement from the star's management company reads, "All the concerts on this tour which have been cancelled, will be rescheduled for later in the year after Toots has been given a clean bill of health from his doctors. Toots regrets having to disappoint any of his fans but this serious head injury requires he return home to attend to his medical issues.
"In that Toots is still undergoing tests and treatment, no definite date for the continuation of touring can be determined as of today. Toots appreciates all of the well wishes and support from his fans and looks forward to performing for them again soon."
Police have charged a 19-year-old man with aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
