Reese Witherspoon's Conservatorship Bid For Sick Dad Dismissed

A Nashville, Tennessee judge has dismissed actress Reese Witherspoon's bid to take charge of her ageing father's finances over concerns for his mental health.

The Legally Blonde star applied for an emergency conservatorship in Davidson County, Tennessee last month (May12) after her mother Mary Elizabeth sued her dad, Dr. John Witherspoon, for bigamy.

Mary Elizabeth, known as Betty, claims her estranged husband exchanged vows with Tricianne Taylor in January (12) while he was still legally married to her. The actress' mum is seeking to have the latest union annulled, although she insists she does not want a divorce.

John, 70, reportedly suffers from depression and the early stages of dementia and movie star Witherspoon and her brother filed a petition to take over the management of their dad's affairs.

However, lawyers for both parties agreed the case was no longer considered an emergency and Circuit Judge Randy Kennedy dismissed the request on Monday (25Jun12).

The judge also upheld a previous ruling to seal all records in the case and bar the media from the hearings.

Meanwhile, Betty Witherspoon obtained a temporary restraining order against Taylor, banning her from using the last name of Witherspoon.

I cannot believe my eyes. Does Judge Randy Kennedy actually worry about undue harm and embarrassment to the parties in the case?I was a court**tcher in Judge Randy Kennedys court the day that his ward, Danny Tate, complained that his conservator had failed to pay his insurance and the temporary conservatorship (which at that time was 2.5 years long) had harmed him. Judge Kennedy immediately shut Tate down and then admonished him in open court for not thanking his conservator, for all hes done for you. The collective gasps from fellow court**tchers nearly sounded like a roar. For those of you who dont know, Danny Tate had about $2.5mil in assets when Judge Randy Kennedys court took control of his life and assets. Today, Tates $2.5 mil is gone and hes not just left with nothing; hes left with mountains of debt caused directly by the conservatorship. And Judge Kennedy has the audacity to speak of embarrassment, humiliation, harm and/or discomfort to a private citizen after Tates conservatorship bled him dry under Kennedys watch?Ask other victims of Kennedys court what they think about closed records: Jewell Tinnon, Ginger Franklin. And how many others?Open records protect the public. Sealed records protect possible wrongdoing.
