Reese Witherspoon has slashed the price of her luxurious rural retreat in Ojai, California.

The 'Mud' actress - who gave birth to her son Tennessee, her first child with husband Jim Toth, in September - has dropped the asking price for the seven-acre ranch for the second time to $7.25 million after originally putting it on the market for $10 million in October.

She reduced the price to $8.9 million in November but was recently forced to lower it again after failing to attract a buyer, according to real estate site Redfin.com.

Reese, who has two other children, Ava, 13, and Deacon, 10, from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe, surprised friends after placing the property on the market just months after she showed it off in a photo shoot for an interiors magazine.

She gushed about her love of the nine-bedroom property, which also boasts three guest cottages, an organic garden, horse stables and mini-petting zoo, at the time, saying: ''When you buy a beautiful piece of art, you don't really own it. You're just the caretaker.

''It reminds me of growing up in Tennessee, where we spent all day outside. I wanted my children to have that experience, to get muddy and hang out with the animals.

''It is meditative and restorative. As soon as I drive through the gate, I relax. The air is fresh, the phone isn't ringing, you can't access e-mail.''

The actress also hosted her wedding at the stunning ranch-style property in March last year and allowed her 'Water For Elephants' co-star Robert Pattinson to hide out there following his relationship troubles with Kristen Stewart after her fling with Rupert Sanders was exposed last August.
