Kathy Bates - Recovering Kathy Bates Going To Be Around ‘For A Long Time’

Kathy Bates – the much loved Oscar winning star of 1990 classic ‘Misery’ - has undergone a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer, though has been given a good prognosis by doctors.

Bates, 64, told People magazine “After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy…Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception.” Bates – who battled ovarian cancer in 2003 - added, “My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time…I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.” Known for playing outspoken feisty characters, Bates’ last television role came in the legal drama ‘Harry’s Law’ for which she earned an Emmy nomination in 2012. It said something for her personal performance that the show was cancelled in May. She also played the American socialite Molly Brown in James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ and had award-winning roles in ‘About Schmidt’ and ‘Primary Colors’, though it’s for her turn as the psychopathic Annie Wilkes in ‘Misery’ that Bates remains best known for.
