Ratings Slide For Ryan, Romney
Some 30.3 million people watched the closing night of the Republican National Convention in Tampa on 11 broadcast and cable networks Thursday, according to Nielsen Research. That figure was down 22 percent from the 38.9 million who watched the closing night of the RNC in 2008 when John McCain delivered his acceptance speech. Of the total number of viewers, 17.5 million were over the age of 55, while only 3.2 million were in the 18-34 age group. The ratings disparity between 2008 and 2012 was even more pronounced on Wednesday, the third night of the convention, when 21.9 million tuned in to watch vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan's acceptance speech. That number was down more than 41 percent from the 37.2 million who tuned in for Sarah Palin's big night in 2008.
