Ratings For Entertainment Shows Fall Below Newscast's

For the second week in a row, television executives might have been wishing that their entertainment programs were drawing the sizable audiences that their evening newscasts were. While NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams averaged 7.87 million viewers, NBC's primetime programming averaged 4.56 million (the averaged was ballooned by high ratings for America's Got Talent ; the network didn't place another show in the top 30). ABC World News with Diane Sawyer averaged 7.27 million viewers, but the network's primetime lineup averaged 5.03 million viewers. Only CBS, which continues to lead in total viewers during primetime, had higher numbers for its entertainment shows than its nightly newscast, but the numbers were close. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley captured 5.56 million viewers, while CBS averaged 5.92 million for its primetime programming. For the week, CBS averaged a 3.8 household rating and a 7 share. ABC was second with a 32.1/5. NBC placed third with a 2.8/5, while Fox trailed with a 2.4/4.
