Ramone Show Scrapped Over Security Fears

Former THE Ramones star Marky Ramone has been forced to cancel a concert in Mexico following a "life-threatening" security scare which left one of the band's crew members injured.

The drummer played a gig in Mexico City on Saturday (07Mar09) night with his group, Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, but the rockers were mobbed by fans as they left the venue.

As the band and crew were shuttled out in a van, fans surrounded them and began pounding on the windshield - shattering the glass and injuring one man who was thrown into oncoming traffic after clinging to the side of the moving vehicle.

A statement from Ramone called the situation "life-threatening" and praised the band's security team for getting them all out unscathed.

It reads, "Things got way over the top concerning the safety of the band at last night's show in Mexico. The van taking the band back to the hotel was besieged by fans resulting in an injury to one of the touring party protecting the exiting band. The security at the venue did their best, but were overwhelmed by the numbers and intensity of the situation. They had never had to deal with anything like that before. It was a life threatening situation."

And the group were forced to cancel their second show in the city on Sunday (08Mar09) night - over safety fears.

The statement adds, "Sunday's show was meant to be in a larger venue, in a dangerous area with only the same amount of security as was not able to handle the scene at Saturday's show.

"Marky apologises to all his fans in Mexico City. He promises to come back with The Blitzkrieg soon under safer circumstances for everyone involved."
