Radcliffe Explains Controversial Theatre Role
LATEST: Teenage actor DANIEL RADCLIFFE has defended his upcoming nude theatre role as the perfect chance to distance himself from his boy wizard character in the HARRY POTTER films. The 17-year-old is desperate to carve a serious Hollywood career, but fears the hit children's franchise could see him typecast unless he takes on a brand new persona. However, his role in Tony Award winning drama EQUUS next year (07) could see him face a barrage of criticism for the project's unsettling subject matter. Radcliffe, who plays a troubled youth with a religious-erotic obsession with horses, says, "Part of me wants to shake up people's perception of me, just shove me in a blender. "It's a really challenging play, and if I can pull it off - we don't know if I can yet - I hope people will stop and think, 'Maybe he can do something other than Harry.'" Radcliffe recently lampooned himself as a sex-crazed teenager in RICKY GERVAIS' hit TV series EXTRAS.
