Pundits Box Office Will Find Nemo At No. 1

The box office will be swimming with the fishes this weekend, according to tracking surveys. That is not to suggest that it will take another dive into the depths of the past weekend when it flirted with record-low revenue and attendance. It is to suggest that Walt Disney's classic fish story, Finding Nemo , which made its first big splash in theaters in 2003,, will likely rise to the top with around $30 million in ticket sales, helped by 3D surcharges. Its worldwide total already stands at $867 million, and by the time the 3D version leaves theaters, its gross could exceed $1 billion The latest in the Resident Evil franchise, Retribution , is likely to come in second with around $27 million, according to the pundits. Disney reportedly spent around $5 million to convert Nemo to 3D, so there's no question about its success in this roll-out. Retribution however, cost $68 million to make, the biggest budget yet for a Resident Evil flick, justified, apparently by the $236 million it took in overseas in its last metamorphosis in 2010 as Afterlife. (It earned just $60 million domestically.)
