George Clooney - Proposition 8 Play Raises $2 Million For Charity

George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Kevin Bacon raised more than $2 million (£1.25 million) for an equal rights charity with their performance of Dustin Lance Black's play about California's controversial same-sex marriage bill.
The stars, along with other famous faces including Martin Sheen, John C. Reilly and Chris Colfer, took to the stage at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday (03Mar12) for the production of 8, a play about the Proposition 8 legislation which overturned the legalisation of gay unions in the state.
More than 200,000 fans logged on to YouTube.com to watch the show online, and it has now been revealed that over $2 millon was raised for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
Speaking about his decision to star in the play, Clooney tells The Hollywood Reporter, "It's important to be on the right side of history. In 20 years, I don't want anyone to wonder where I stood. At some point people are going to look back and wonder why this was ever an issue."
Last month (Feb12), a U.S. appeals court ruled California's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.
