Prolific sci-fi producer Bernard Glasser has died at the age of 89.

He died in Los Angeles on Thursday (02Jan14). No further details of his death have been released as Wenn goes to press.

Landing a role as a production assistant while working as a teacher at Beverly Hills High School, he made his debut with The Three Stooges' Gold Raiders in 1951.

He went on to produce a string of sci-fi hits including Return of the Fly and The Day of the Triffids before stepping away from the industry in the 1970s to move into real estate.

His son Richard, who worked in independent film sales and established the International Film Office (Ifo), died from a stroke aged 50 in 2010.
