Prodigy - Prodigy Brands Prison Stint A Wake-up Call
Rapper Prodigy is convinced his recent prison stint was a blessing in disguise as it turned out to be a much-needed wake-up call.
The Mobb Deep star was ordered to serve three-and-a-half years behind bars for illegal weapons possession in October 2007 but he walked free last year (11) and now credits the sentence with helping him get his life back on track.
He tells music website Good*Fella Media, "If I didn't get locked up, something really bad would have happened to me... (I was just) being selfish, just after the money, the fame, the jewellery, the b**ches... (my) reputation, just all the wrong s**t. I'm so glad I got locked up, because if I didn't... I would have been either dead or locked up for life."
Prodigy, real name Albert Johnson, insists time away from his family and friends motivated him to re-evaluate his priorities and make amends with those he had wronged.
He adds, "(I have been) reconciling with certain people, with myself, (and) with God... I had to do a lot of apologising to certain people... (to get a) clean slate basically. Like, 'Listen, I was a child, mentally, I don't even know why I ever did that s**t. That was not me.' I look back, like, 'What the f**k was on your mind?'"
