Private Ceremony For Tony Scott Before Public Remembrance

A private ceremony for Tony Scott 's family to remember the director's life and mourn his passing will take precedent over a public event. The private memorial will take place this weekend, reports The Los Angeles Times.

The complete statement reads: "Tony Scott will be honored at a private, family-only ceremony this weekend in Los Angeles. The family will announce plans after Labor Day for a gathering to celebrate the life and work of Mr. Scott. Details will be forthcoming once they are formalized." Scott jumped 185ft from the Vincent Thomas Bridge near Long Beach, about 30 miles south of his Beverly Hills home. A note was left in his office, but the details of that note, as well as any details surrounding his mental state before the suicide remain private, as his close friends and family come to terms with the tragic news. Scott's death, and the manner of his passing have shocked the Hollywood community. The director was somewhat of a favourite amongst his contemporary's, and his kind nature, as well as his keen directing prowess, as evidenced by films such as Top Gun and True Romance, is sorely missed.

Tributes continue to be paid from the people that knew him. "Tony Scott was a great director, a genuine friend and it is unfathomable to think that he is now gone," wrote Denzel Washington, whom he worked with on numerous occasions. "I will say this about Mr. Tony Scott. I wouldn't have the career I have today without that man. His love, support and encouragement were unwavering and unconditional. He was a heavyweight in every sense of the world and a human being first and foremost," those kind words from Joe Carnahan, writer/director.
