Princess Beatrice Sells 'Jellyfish Hat' On Ebay
Beatrice featured regularly in fashion critics 'Royal Wedding Worst Dressed' lists and the hat even inspired its own Facebook page. The unusual headwear, which was compared to a jellyfish and a cat-flap, will be listed on the auction site Ebay at 5pm tonight (12th April 2011). The Princess's mother Sarah Ferguson revealed Beatrice's plans while chatting to US chat show host Oprah Winfrey, saying, "She's putting it up for auction for Unicef and for Children in Crisis". A royal spokesperson said the Princess was looking to raise several thousand pounds from the sale, saying, "This was all Beatrice's idea. She was obviously very aware of the attention the hat caused. This is a lovely way of trying to make something positive out of it and hopefully making money for children". Renowned hat designer Philip Treacy also created headwear for 35 other Royal Wedding guests, including, Victoria Beckham, Zara Phillips, Tara Palmer-tomlinson and Isabella Calthorpe.
Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Ferguson and her ex-husband Prince Andrew, is fifth in line to the throne. As a student at the University of London, the Princess does not carry out regular royal duties, although she often makes appearances with the royal family.
