Prince - Prince Criticises Glastonbury Organisers
Pop superstar Prince has taken aim at the organisers of Britain's upcoming Glastonbury festival over rumours he turned down the chance to headline the event, insisting he "never spoke to anyone about doing that concert".
Festival boss Michael Eavis recently suggested the Purple Rain hitmaker was among his favourites to take on a star spot at the famous festival, which kicks off in south-west England on Friday (24Jun11), saying, "I tried to get Prince earlier on. At one point he was, then he wasn't..."
Eavis eventually arranged for U2, Coldplay and Beyonce to perform at his event and Prince signed up to headline the smaller Hop Farm festival in Kent, England on the same weekend.
The singer has now spoken out to respond to Eavis' comments, insisting he was never approached to play at Glastonbury.
He tells Britain's The Guardian, "They use my name to sell the festival. It's illegal. I've never spoken to anyone about doing that concert, ever."
