Prince Charles Gets Thumbs Up For Countryfile Appearance

Prince Charles impressed viewers with 'Countryfile' appearance.

The royal heir's performance as guest editor on the long-running BBC One show went down a storm with the public last night (10.03.13), earning him high praises for his self-deprecating humour and relaxed approach to ecological issues.

The Telegraph newspaper declared: ''The Prince of Wales is really quite cool'', adding that his ''chuckling, no-nonsense approach stood in stark contrast to the four Countryfile presenters''.

Meanwhile, The Independent was amazed at the prince's comic prowess and ''regal chuckles'', likening him to a ''revered national entertainer''.

Accompanied by presenters Matt Baker, Julia Bradbury, Adam Henson and John Craven, Charles took control of the 'Countryfile' schedule in celebration of its 25th anniversary.

The 65-year-old eco-warrior discussed causes close to his heart, including organic farming, hedge-laying and healthy school dinners.

However, The Independent were more dubious about the content of the programme itself, namely the section in which he explained his passion for building hedges.

They joked: ''You can't really blame him either for the dullness of this special edition of the programme. I had secretly hoped he would indulge some of his more fringe enthusiasms - homeopathy for cows, say.''

Charles - who donned a thread-bare, tattered old jacket for the show - spoke enthusiastically about his weekend hobby and revealed he runs an annual competition in his special hedge-building skill on his estate.

He said: ''I love it. I tell you why, because it's terrific exercise and at the same time it's a sort of hobby or interest to see if you can get better at doing it.''
