Pride And Prejudice To Get 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Makeover
17 July 2012The publishers, according to The Telegraph, are "100 per cent convinced" that their racy versions of the classic novels will be well received amongst readers. They will be keen to cash in on the phenomenal success of EL James' 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' the erotic work of fan fiction based on the Twilight novels, dubbed 'mummy porn,' which have take the world by storm in recent months. In the Jane Eyre adaptation, the female protagonist has "explosive sex with Mr Rochester', whilst Wuthering Heights' Catherine Earnshaw apparently indulges in a spot of bondage with Heathcliff. And just in case you were wondering how on earth anyone can transform Sherlock Holmes into a work of eroticism, you may or may not be pleased to learn that he has a sexual relationship with his sidekick, Dr Watson.
The founder of Total-E-Bound, Claire Siemaszkiewicz confirmed that they would be launching the raunchy rewrites on July 30, 2012, in digital format. She also explained that they are trying to stay at least a little bit faithful to the originals: "We're not rewriting the classics. We're keeping the original prose and the author's voice. We're not changing any of that. People are going to either love it or hate it. But we're 100 per cent convinced that there's a market there. I've often wondered whether the Bronte sisters, if they were alive today, would have gone down the erotic romance route."
