Over 3 million British viewers tuned in for the UK television premiere of The Inbetweeners Movie on Channel 4 last night, according to The Guardian. It eclipsed the BBC1 drama Hunted and continued the phenomenal success of the film, which broke box office records in the UK, taking £45 million.

3.2 million viewers tuned in to watch Will, Simon, Jay and Neil jet off to Malia for their first 'lad's holiday'. It represented a 16.4% share of the audience between 9pm and 11.05pm - a considerably chunk. Drama Hunted pulled in 2.6 million for an 11.2% share. Over on Channel 5, the Kevin Costner starring drama-western Hatfields & McCoys pulled in 1 million. On Dave, the new series of Red Dwarf coaxed in 975,000 viewers for a 4.2% share, while Kirstie's Vintage Home began with 2 million viewers between 8pm and 9pm. It was beaten by BBC2's MasterChef: The Professionals which had 2.4 million viewers including 102,000 on BBC HD.

Earlier this year, writer Damon Beesley told The Sun that he and co-creator Iain Morris were "developing an idea for  sequel" to the Inbetweeners movie, however, actor Simon Bird has since said there were "no concrete plans" and insisted that it hinged on a "strong enough idea."
