"There’s Something Out There" But Is It A Predator Sequel Announcement At Comic-Con 2013?
Could a fourth movie in the franchise really be happening?
The rumors and speculation that precede Comic-Con are almost as exciting as the event itself. Well, not quite, but you get the picture. The latest thing to be excited about is a photo posted on Predator’s Facebook page, sending geeks everywhere into raptures at the notion of a new Predator movie.
Arnie starred in the first, but will he make a return? Even a cameo?
"There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man… We're all gonna die," reads the text on the picture, which appears to be a thermal image – a motif for the franchise. This is, as you’ll know if you’re reading this a quote from the original 1987 Predator movie, spoken by Sonny Landham's Billy. It's accompanied on the image by the hashtag #HuntthePredator.
See, studios don’t tend to put hashtags out there for the sake of it; they’ve become as much a marketing ploy as a fun way to contextualize a picture of you eating an expensive burger #idiots. 20th Century Fox's has promised "a huge surprise" for its San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday, but we don’t think it’s a surprise anymore. Expect a Predator sequel announcement, and expect it… hard.
The original, 1987 Predator film, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a piece of sci-fi horror mastery. It was reviewed to the tune of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but its value as a cult movie is much higher than that. 1990’s Predator 2 was a huge disappointment, taking a real critical mauling, while Predators in 2010 only managed to repair some of the damage. A fourth Predator movie - and we’re not counting the Alien crossovers – might just save the reputation of the classic alien flick.
