The unwieldy movie title Precious Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire has boosted sales of the novel and put it into the hands of readers who might otherwise have ignored it, author Sapphire has told USA Today . "The movie has given the book a whole new life," she said. (It is currently listed at No. 1 on the New York Times 's Paperback Trade Fiction list. USA Today lists it at No. 13 overall.) Sapphire told the newspaper that the book has now reached readers beyond its original "comfort zone, beyond the artists and intellectuals and black teens and social workers. It's out in mainstream America."
