Pop Stars Rejoin Twitter/facebook After Raising $1 Million
The pop superstars agreed to sign off of all social networking sites as part of a new campaign, Digital Life Sacrifice, to raise donations for Key's Keep A Child Alive Foundation.
The celebrities, which also included Kim Kardashian and U.S. TV personality Ryan Seacrest, logged off their computers last week (01Dec10) to mark World AIDS Day, and refused to return to tweeting and updating their Facebook pages until the target of $1 million (£666,700) was reached.
And now they can sign back on - the stars and fans raised $500,000 (£333,330), while billionaire and philanthropist Stewart Rahr matched the pledges, donating the other $500,000 (£333,330) to reach the goal.
Tweeting in celebration on Monday (06Dec10), Usher wrote, "I'm alive! We raised $1mil to help KCA (Keep A Child Alive) fight AIDS. Thank you so much and never stop buying life!"
