Pompeo Defends Short Maternity Leave
GREY'S ANATOMY star Ellen Pompeo is defending her decision to return to the hit TV show just four weeks after giving birth - insisting she "needed to work" while she still had a job.
The actress gave birth to her daughter Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery, her first child with husband Chris Ivery, in September (09).
She shocked fans by whipping herself back into shape and returning to the U.S. medical drama in just over a month.
But Pompeo insists she's simply lucky to have a job in the tough economic climate and she doesn't want to take it for granted.
She tells America's Self magazine, "A lot of people couldn't understand why I wouldn't take my maternity leave. I felt like I needed to work while I had this opportunity."
