Playwright Pinter Hailed By French Government

Acclaimed British playwright HAROLD PINTER has received France's highest accolade from the country's Prime Minister DOMINIQUE DE VILLEPIN. Pinter, famed for dramas including THE CARETAKER and THE HOMECOMING, was presented with the French Legion d'Honneur yesterday (17JAN07) during Villepin's visit to London. The statesman said, "Your words express the anguish and the torrent that is human life... Your words are actions. Your words are a shout. They are rough, engaged in violent hand-to-hand combat that makes them talk, that makes them speak out." The 76-year-old dramatist can add his new accolade to 2005's Nobel Prize for Literature.
