Plan B - Plan B And Richard Hawley Lead Mercury Prize Nominations

British rapper/singer Plan B and rocker Richard Hawley will battle it out for the prestigious album of the year honour at the 2012 Mercury Prize ceremony.
Plan B's Ill Manors and Hawley's Standing at the Sky's Edge are the favourites to win the 2012 accolade. They'll be up against albums from fellow nominees The MACcabees, soul singer Jessie Ware, Roller Trio and Django Django.
Michael Kiwanuka (Home Again), Alt-J (An Awesome Wave), Field Music (Plumb), Lianne La Havas (Is Your Love Big Enough?), Ben Howard (Every Kingdom) and Sam Lee (Ground Of Its Own) round out the rest of the 12-strong shortlist.
Albums from more high-profile acts including Coldplay, Florence + The MAChine and Emeli Sande were all snubbed by judges when the nominations were announced on Wednesday (12Sep12).
The Mercury Prize is awarded annually to the most influential British album of the previous 12 months. The winning act will receive a $32,000 (£20,000) cheque at a prizegiving in London on 1 November (12).
PJ Harvey beat Adele to the honour last year and claimed the 2011 Mercury Prize for her acclaimed album Let England Shake.
