Penelope Cruz is in negotiations for a role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides', which begins filming this summer.
Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to take part in the fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie.
The 35-year-old actress will star alongside Johnny Depp in 'Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides', which is due to be filmed this summer.
Although details surrounding Penelope's role are currently sketchy, it is believed she will be an equal to Johnny's character Captain Jack Sparrow.
The role would reunite Penelope with 'Nine' director Rob Marshall.
While Penelope is signing on for the movie, several high-profile stars have pulled out of the fourth film.
Orlando Bloom, Mackenzie Crook and Keira Knightley have all stated they are not reprising the roles they played in previous instalments of the Disney franchise.
Orlando, who played William Turner in the movies, recently said: "No, I'm definitely not returning. William Turner is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean."
Mackenzie, who plays Ragetti, admitted he was never asked to take part.
He said: "They haven't asked me. But actually I don't mind at all.
"I'm a fan of the first one especially and I think the trilogy we've made is great. I'd almost like them to leave it there."
The film has a preliminary release date of May 20 2011.
