Pierce Brosnan - Pierce Brosnan: 'I'd Like To See Colin Salmon As Bond'
Pierce Brosnan has given his Bond movie co-star Colin Salmon his blessing to play the first black 007.
As Bond film aficionados suggest the superspy might be played by a black actor once Daniel Craig steps down, Salmon, who played Charles Robinson in three of Brosnan's 007 adventures, and fellow Brit Idris Elba's names have jumped to the top of fans' wishlists - and Brosnan admits he's like to see his old pal in the hotseat.
He tells the Irish Independent, "I've always thrown Colin Salmon's name in the mix. He's somebody I have worked with closely over the years. He would be outstanding."
But Brosnan is also a fan of his successor, stating Craig is "doing superbly well" as the latest of six James Bonds.
And the Irishman is still proud of his 007 title, insisting he'll never bad mouth the blockbuster franchise, adding, "It's one of the most rewarding roles. That character, and the opportunities it gave one. That job is the gift that keeps giving because once you're a Bond, you're a Bond for life.
"It's a small company of men now who have played the role and, for me, it's allowed me to create my own company, to produce, and to step forth into the international market and have a profile. That's a healthy thing for any actor... Without a question, it was a significant part of my life and career, and is ongoing in many respects."
