Pia Toscano - Pia Toscano Exit Blamed On Judges

Pia Toscano's shock exit from American Idol should be blamed on the judges, according to the Wall Street Journal. 22-year-old Pia Toscano was kicked off the reality show last night despite being considered the favourite to win the competition. The decision sparked thousands of angry messages on social networking sites, with some fans vowing never to watch the show again.
Audiences were in disbelief as Pia Toscano was told she had received the lowest amount of viewer votes and therefore had to leave the competition. The judges looked furious as the New Yorker sang her 'final song', but the Wall Street Journal writer Stephanie Krikorian suggests that judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler were part of the problem, saying, "They have been sugar-coating all of their comments lately, but last night they gave Pia the mildest of criticism. Maybe it was enough to shift the vote, because those were the only negative words of the night". Toscano sang Tina Turner's hit song 'River Deep, Mountain High' on Tuesday's show and was assumed to be safe from elimination after a solid performance.
Speculation that Pia Toscano will soon sign a major record deal has already begun to intensify. Her early performances on American Idol drew comparisons to Mariah Carey and CELINE DION.

I stopped watching American Idol last year when Crystal Bowersox (who outshined Lee Dwyze by a landslide!) was voted out at the winner of American Idol, when she should have won! I believe her paying homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, before after her performance, sealed her fate! Which let's me know that voters don't vote based on talent! They vote based on RACE, SEX, etc. So stop blaming Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson, why not Steven Tyler?

No, i wanted her gone because although she has an amazing voice, she's like a ROBOT. No personality, no style, no sense of humor. I was glad. If she doesn't get some personality she's a lounge singer. A good one, but that.

Her voice is amazing, but she lacked the stage presence of many of the other contestants who had the ability to fire up the audience. And I don't see how her getting voted off could possibly be the judges fault as this is America votes....it was simply that she didn't have the fan base that the others had. For this reason, I have always felt that the judges should have a percentage of the voting imput so that the voting would not just be on fan base alone, but would also be judged on their merit/talent. This season is the best ever as far as talent is concerned...any one of the contestants could win the contest so there will be much disappointment in the weeks ahead as we see talent getting voted off....but that's what it's all about.

There should be a limit on how many votes a voter can place....some of them will jam the phone lines by placing hundreds of votes for their favorite....that is not a fair way of voting....one vote per phone # should be allowed and no more for a particular contestant.

Her elimation makes the perfect case for changing the way the voting is handled. The professional judges should comprise half of each contestant's score while the other half should be composed of the audience's votes.

It's just too sad. I felt so bad for her. She's one of the most talented ones on this year's show. I like Casey, but I think they should have held off on the "Judges Save". I hope she gets a good record deal, because she really deserves it. I hope she doesn't get discouraged. Idol is becoming too much of a popularity competition, and not talent. She's very good looking too, and mostly gals watch Idol and vote, so that's why you have got more guys than gals left this year. Her hometown should be very proud of her.
