Phil Spector - Phil Spector Has Murder Conviction Upheld

Phil Spector, the American music producer noted for his "Wall of Sound" technique, has had his murder conviction appeal turned down by a Californian court, reports the Associated Press. In 2009, Phil Spector was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison after being convicted of second degree murder following the shooting of actress Lana Clarkson.
Spector and his legal team had been hoping to have the decision overturned but a Californian court turned down the appeal and rejected the arguments of Spector's attorneys. Dennis Riordan, a lawyer for Mr Spector, argued that five women who said the music producer had used a firearm to intimidate them should never been allowed to contribute to the original trial. A three-judge panel also dismissed an argument that Ms Clarkson may have killed herself, saying that the evidence proved "Clarkson did not die by her own hand". After the decision had been made, Spector's lawyer released a statement noting that the appeal rejection, "does not begin to adequately address the prosecution's remarkable assault on constitutional rights to a neutral judge and to cross-examine all adverse witnesses."
Phil Spector and his legal team are now expected to seek another hearing with the appeals court and may seek a review by the California Supreme Court.
