New Peter Kay Sitcom to Debut on iPlayer Before Hitting TV

The online age is seeing TV shows online before they come to our TV screens. Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards is available exclusively on Netflix, and now Peter Kay’s new BBC sitcom will debut on their online catch up service, iPlayer.

The Bolton-born comedian said of the new sitcom, which is called Car Share, "To be finally working with the BBC on a new comedy is a great opportunity. And the idea of two people car sharing to work each day really appealed to me, as it highlights the comedy in the minutia of the daily trek and allows the spiralling conversations of life to unwind in all of their glory.” BBC One controller Danny Cohen said: "It is hugely exciting that Peter Kay is coming to BBC One with his new series - even more so with the innovative plan we have to launch the show online." Car Share is part of a trial in which 40 hours of programming will be made available online first. BBC iPlayer is primarily used as a service for people to catch up on TV, but considering the amount of devices that enable people to watch the online service on their TV’s, ‘on demand’ television is becoming more and more flexible.
