Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth announced their divorce after 11 years of marriage, this week. Whilst fans of the acting couple (Facinelli is known for his role in Twilight and Garth was a star of Beverly Hills 90210) may have been surprised at their split, industry insiders are suggesting that this may have been on the cards for some time.

On Tuesday (March 13, 2012), E! Online reminded readers that Jennie and Peter had been "plagued" by troubles for some time and that rumours of a possible split had surfaced last July (2011). Reports even emerged that the couple had been living separately. In a joint statement regarding their separation, the couple said "While we have decided to end our marriage, we both share the same deep love and devotion to our children.We remain dedicated to raising our beautiful daughters together. We ask for privacy and respect during this time."

The exact details of the split are yet to become clear, though the celebrity gossip site Scallywag and Vagabond have suggested that Peter had been having an affair with another woman. These rumours are unconfirmed, though and US Weekly's Justin Ravitz told ABC News that "It's the kind of report that comes out when any couple announces their separation." E! News' own correspondent, Jason Kennedy also told Abc "Who really knows what happens behind closed doors. Hopefully, it can stay amicable. Let's just hope they stay focused on those beautiful daughters."
