Pete Townshend - Pete Townshend: 'Keith Moon Lost His Mind Over Fears His Wife Would Leave'
Legendary rocker Pete Townshend has claimed his The Who bandmate Keith Moon over medicated because he was so paranoid his wife would leave him for one of his peers.
Moon fatally overdosed on sedative Clomethiazole in 1978, but Townshend believes his bandmate's problems started years earlier, when his marriage to Kim Kerrigan began to fall apart in the early 1970s.
The guitar great tells Rolling Stone magazine, "He realised he was going to lose his wife - he had spent his whole young life worrying that she was going to run off with Rod Stewart or somebody, and he medicated carelessly using cocktails."
In fact Kerrigan, the mother of the drummer's daughter Amanda, left Moon for Stewart's The Faces bandmate Ian MCLagan. Kerrigan and MCLagan wed a month after Moon's death in 1978.
