Pete Seeger - Pete Seeger On Course To Break Tony Bennett's Chart Record With Dylan Anniversary Release

Folk icon Pete Seeger is aiming for the top of the world's pop charts and the chance to break Tony Bennett's six-month-old record, as the oldest person to score a hit, with an apt version of Bob Dylan's tune Forever Young.
Seeger, 92, recorded the cover for Amnesty International's charity Dylan tribute album Chimes of Freedom, backed by a children's choir, and now the track is to be made available as a digital single, promoted by a video featuring the folk singer in the studio with the singing kids.
The promo will be available on Monday (19Mar12) - the exact 50th anniversary of the release of Dylan's first album.
Seeger fans are hoping the video will help propel the singer/songwriter, who turns 93 in May (12), into the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K. singles charts, where he would become the oldest hitmaker ever, and they've launched a grass-roots campaign, ForeverPete.com, in a bid to get the old-timer into the record books.
Bennett set the standard after scoring a worldwide hit with his Amy Winehouse duet Body & Soul in September (11) at the age of 85.
Prior to Bennett's hit, the previous record-holders were George Burns in the U.S., who scored a 1980 novelty hit with I Wish I Was Eighteen Again at the age of 84, and Larry Adler, who was 80 when he hit the U.K. charts in 1994 with his Kate Bush collaboration The Man I Love.
Martin Lewis, who instigated and co-produced the Seeger track with writer/producer Mark Hudson, says, "Pete Seeger has always been an inspiration to musicians and anyone with a social conscience. We owe him so much. Putting him in the charts at 92 would mean that he'll always stay Forever Young!"
