19 March 2012If the campaign is successful, not only will it raise vital funds for Amnesty International, but it would also mean that Pete Seeger would become the oldest person to appear on the Billboard chart. A website, Twitter page and Facebook profile have been set up in the hope of raising awareness of the track, which features vocals from a New York-based children's choir, the Rivertown Kids. The album, Chimes of Freedom, The Songs of Bob Dylan can be purchased as an album in its entirety, or as individual tracks. It features covers of Dylan songs performed by the likes of Patti Smith, pete townsend, Joan Baez and Adele.
Pete Seeger, who mentored Dylan in his early career, was a member of the folk group The Weavers and the Almanac Singers, as well as being an associate of the folk legend Woody Guthrie. He wrote a number of hit songs, including 'Little Boxes,' and 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' which became a hit for The Byrds. Currently, the oldest recording artist to score a Billboard hit, is Tony Bennett who recently found renewed success at the age of 85.| Comment on this article |
