Pete Seeger - Pete Seeger, 92, Aims For Billboard Chart Record

19 March 2012
Today (March 19, 2012) marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Bob Dylan's debut album. A four-Cd tribute album to the legendary artist has been released, in aid of Amnesty International and LA Times have revealed today that a campaign is under way to promote PETE SEEGER 's cover of 'Forever Young' and propel the 92 year old's version of the song into the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

If the campaign is successful, not only will it raise vital funds for Amnesty International, but it would also mean that Pete Seeger would become the oldest person to appear on the Billboard chart. A website, Twitter page and Facebook profile have been set up in the hope of raising awareness of the track, which features vocals from a New York-based children's choir, the Rivertown Kids. The album, Chimes of Freedom, The Songs of Bob Dylan can be purchased as an album in its entirety, or as individual tracks. It features covers of Dylan songs performed by the likes of Patti Smith, pete townsend, Joan Baez and Adele.

Pete Seeger, who mentored Dylan in his early career, was a member of the folk group The Weavers and the Almanac Singers, as well as being an associate of the folk legend Woody Guthrie. He wrote a number of hit songs, including 'Little Boxes,' and 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' which became a hit for The Byrds. Currently, the oldest recording artist to score a Billboard hit, is Tony Bennett who recently found renewed success at the age of 85.
